On arrival at the hotel in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic we were sold by the idea of the Outback Adventures tour. For those that are wondering what it entails, it is literally an Outback Safari with plenty of rum and an educational twist.
The sales rep was very outgoing and bubbly which made it sound like an interesting trip. So from the word go we were sold!
Another early start with a request of being ready in the lobby by 6:30am. We were yet again half asleep.
One nice thing about this trip was it was an English truck and therefore the tour guide spoke only in English.
After jumping on the truck he explained we would be travelling into the mountains to experience some of the local farming and living headquarters.
So It Begins
We head towards Macao and then turn off into the off road tracks up to the mountains. The rum begins to be poured. However the tour guide recommends having it with Sprite (Lemonade) rather than Coca Cola.
Something I had not tried but thought I would give it a go.
A new love was then found… Rum and Sprite!
First Stop Coconuts
Our first stop on this Outback Adventures trip was at a local Coconut Farm. Here we were guided into a little shelter where we were shown how Coconuts can be used for a variety of products from Oils for your Skin to Coconut you can drink. Just don’t forget Coconut is a laxative if you have too much of it.
Next Stop Local Farmers
On arrival we were blessed with some beautiful little houses all painted in a variety of colours. Which were painted in such a way as they were proud of them.
We were invited into their home to see their way of living. It was amazing how little was involved but it still felt like home.
After this we were directed to their garden where we sat down under a shelter and the guide explained a variety of products produced here. From Sugar Cane to Coffee Beans we got to see it all.
Highlight for me was trying some of the Sugar Cane. It is amazing how much water is inside of it.
We got to experience:
- Coffee Beans
- Sugar Cane
After this we headed back to the truck for the next part of our adventure. Climbing even higher in the mountains we passed what was a scene from the first Jurassic Park movie, which truly was out of this world.
Half an hour later and plenty more drinks we arrived at our lunch meeting point.
It was a purpose built building on the edge of the mountain with a view to die for. Here we were served chicken rice a long with a variety of different products to try. It was amazing and very well cooked.
After Lunch we were allowed to wander around and shortly after were taken on a tour around the area being shown the Iguana they had as well as a variety of different crocodiles and birds.
We were then shown how cigars were made and able to try them.
Following this a little stall where we could purchase gifts to take home.
Next Stop Boogy Boarding
After our stomachs had settled we jumped back in the truck and were driven down the mountain to Macao Beach for an attempt on Boogy Boards.
At this point everyone was rather drunk which made it even more entertaining. With the Body Boards supplied we were all given one and shown how to do it.
Literally as a wave came we would jump on the board and let the wave take us.
It was great fun!
Would I recommend it? Of course!
After such a long amazing day it was time to head back. Here is to the next amazing trip.
